Warren E. Black, 97, formerly of North Hess Rd., Waterfall, PA and more recently of the Fulton County Medical Center - Long Term Care Unit, McConnellsburg, PA, was taken home to be with the Lord Friday, August 20, 2021 at the Long Term Care Unit.
Born on August 25, 1923 in Shirley Township, PA, he was the son of the late Roy John and Laura (Rupert) Black. He was united in marriage to the former Vera M. Brant. Mrs. Black preceded in death on March 28, 2007.
He is survived by son Larry Black and wife Sandra, Catonsville, MD, daughters Susan McKissick, Volant, PA, Barbara Cutchall and husband Craig, Harrisonville, PA and Peggy Baum and husband David, York, PA. Eleven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Siblings Minerva Moore, Joann Stake and Roy “Jack” Black also survive.
A daughter, Carol Cline, siblings Wilmer Black, Edwinna Jenkins and infant brother Duane Black preceded him in death.
Mr. Black was a graduate of Hustontown High School - Class of 1941.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Captain in World War II.
Mr. Black was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, PA serving as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent and lay speaker.
He previously served as president of the Forbes Road School Board, was a 4H leader for 22 years, 4H softball coach and Forbes Road High School Girls Basketball coach.
During his lifetime, he was a dairy farmer. After his retirement, he enjoyed tending to his orchard, sweet corn, potatoes and strawberries, which he would share with others. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Mr. Black was a well-respected person, well-known in the local community.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 23, 2021 at the Fairview United Methodist Church, 2246 North Hess Road, Harrisonville, PA with Rev. Jay Saxe and Rev. Marsha Bookhamer officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, adjacent to the church. Friends may call at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown, PA from 6 - 8:00 PM Sunday evening and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
