Timothy (Tim) John Drover, 71 of Harrisonville, PA died Monday, November 11, 2019 at home after a brief but intense battle with cancer. He was born February 5, 1948 in Bedford, PA to John and Rebecca (Stunkard) Drover.
He graduated from Gateway High School, Monroeville, PA in 1966. He continued his education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1970 with a BS of Education in Social Studies. He was employed by the PA Department of Public Welfare from 1972 until his retirement in 2005. He finished out his career as an office manager of the Welfare Office in Westmoreland County, PA. In 2005, he relocated to Fulton County.
Tim was a consummate Pittsburgh sports fan, following his teams with enthusiasm and cautious optimism. He knew baseball regulations thoroughly and umpired 25 years at the high school, American Legion and Junior College Level. He loved to hunt and spent many deer seasons hunting in Wells Tannery where his maternal grandparents, Reba and Harry Stunkard, lived. He was known for his wide ranging knowledge of the esoteric and unusual, his grasp of song lyrics, and his wry and unusual sense of humor. He was a ruling elder at McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church and active in church life in McConnellsburg and his previous church Westminster, in Greensburg, PA.
He met Rebecca (Beckie) Karalfa Drover while at IUP and they married in 1972. He is survived by Beckie, of Harrisonville, his brother Douglas (Carolyn) Drover of Monroeville, PA; sister Janet Salak of Monroeville, PA; sister Betty (Chris) Nolan of Fairfax Virginia; sister Patti (Mark) Terry of Bel Aire, MD; son Jonathan (Emily Rivlin-Nadler) Drover of Queens, NY; son Benjamin (Kristy) Drover of Lancaster, PA; and daughter Samantha (Zach) Drover-Mundy of Winter Haven, FL. He is survived by 7 grandchildren: Jonas Aruanno, Mary Mundy, Jane Mundy, Maya Drover, Jack Drover, Lilah Rivlin-Nadler Drover, and Miles Rivlin-Nadler Drover.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and infant granddaughter Lillian Rebecca Mundy
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 18, 2019 at the McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church, 125 South Second Street, McConnellsburg, PA 17233. A funeral lunch will follow in the church. Officiating will be Rev. Emily McCachren and Rev. Ed Blank. Memorial contributions can be made to McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.
