Roy Herbert Cline, Jr, “Butch,” 76, formerly of Sugar Maple Lane, Harrisonville, PA, passed away at the Shippensburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on March 7th, 2025. Born February 11, 1949 in Chambersburg, he was the son of Jean (Berkstresser) Cline and Roy H. Cline, Sr. Roy was united in marriage to Carol (Black) Cline and is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Cline and Jill Cline and two step-children, Troy Parsons and Shelly Morris. Roy was dearly loved by three siblings, Carolyn and husband Daniel of Rockwood, PA, Michael and wife Cathy of McConnellsburg, PA, and Jacqueline Perdas of Shippensburg, PA.
Butch’s life was blessed with many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews whom he loved sharing time with at his 4th of July gatherings offering fun, games, and good food in the comfort of his personally constructed pavilion. Butch loved beauty and gardening both evident at his home and in photos he captured. Many of us enjoyed his summer produce which depending on the season, we knew the contents of the bags he brought. Butch was an avid hunter beginning at a young age with his grandfather, uncles, and brother Michael. The hours and adventures shared by Butch and Mike through the years were innumerable. Game News published one of Butch’s stories, A Wheelbarrow for Opening Day, which highlighted the love and hardships of hunting. Butch loved carving and making walking sticks which many of his friends, family, and classmates now own.
Roy graduated from Forbes Road High School and then attended Shippensburg State College graduating with a BS in Education and MS in Special Education. He loved playing soccer for the Red Raiders of SSC. Roy taught at McConnellsburg High School and coached baseball for the Spartans. After his retirement from education he worked at JLG, Industries where he wrote a booklet entitled Second to None, in honor of the workers and finished machinery created there. Roy was known for his hard work and pride in accomplishment.
Roy first attended Fairview United Methodist Church as an infant with his mother and siblings. On Friday, March 14th, at 11 AM, a memorial service will be held at the Fairview United Methodist Church at 2288 N Hess Rd, Harrisonville, PA 17228. After the service, interment will be at the cemetery followed by a time of fellowship and refreshment for friends and family to share memories of Roy “Butch” Cline.
