Richard L. “Dick” Johnson, 93, Wells Tannery, PA and formerly of Scotland, PA passed away Thursday morning, December 20, 2019 at ManorCare, Chambersburg, PA.
Richard was born February 8, 1926 at Wells Tannery, PA, the son of the late Margaret Frances “Kirk” (Stunkard) Johnson and Levi F. Johnson.
On August 16, 1944 he married Elvera K. “Sis” Fix Johnson, his wife preceded him in death January 26, 1974.
He is survived by two granddaughters, Elvera and Emily, and numerous nieces and nephews. Also he was the Godfather of Christina R. Barnes.
Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
He was a former member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, PA,
Richard was a proud veteran having served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific.
He was employed with E. D. Plummer of Chambersburg, PA for 30 years. He worked for various government installations including Camp David and the Underground Pentagon. He retired from Valley Quarries, Inc. in 1991.
Richard enjoyed history, country music, hunting, fishing, feeding “the geese” and watching for wildlife at his home. For years he took many local people to hunt deer and antelope at his second home, the Foster’s Flying “U” Ranch, in Black Stump Draw, WY. He also enjoyed visiting and helping family, friends, and neighbors. He was known for his cowboy hat.
He was a member of Fulton County Historical Society, National Rifle Association, George Washington Lodge143 F. and A. M. at Chambersburg, PA, South Penn Scottish Rite Club of Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Valley Forest No. 145 and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg, PA.
Richard was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
At the request of Richard there will be no viewing, a private burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Chambersburg, PA.
