Fred Blessing Martz, 96, Hustontown, PA died at 1:55 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Aprontree Personal Care Home, Dry Run, PA.
Born August 28, 1922 at Hustontown, he was the son of the late John Peter and Alice (Kegerreis) Martz IV. He was married to Nella Morton on June 14, 1942. Mrs. Martz preceded in death on March 11, 1982.
Four daughters survive: Sandra Kies and husband Allan, Hustontown; Linda Black and husband Fred, McConnellsburg, PA; Lucinda Knepper and husband Henry, Hustontown; and Brenda Gearhart, McConnellsburg. A son Dennis Martz and a grandson Scott Martz are deceased.
There are 14 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great granddaughter.
Eight brothers and three sisters preceded in death.
Mr. Martz retired from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission where he worked as a tunnel guard. In earlier years he worked at H. J. Heinz Co., Chambersburg, PA and for George S. Hann, Sr., Contracting, Hustontown, PA. He was also a lifelong farmer.
He was a member of Mount Zion Lodge #774, Free and Accepted Masons, McConnellsburg, PA, Hagerstown Forest #95 Tall Cedars of Lebanon Lodge, Harrisburg Consistory, and the Jaffa Shrine, Altoona, PA. He was also a charter member and life member of the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt Street, Hustontown, PA with Pastor Richard Black, Jr. and Evangelist Tim McVey officiating. Interment will be at Hustontown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6--8:00 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Mount Zion Lodge will conduct a masonic funeral service at 7:45 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
