Flora Marcene (Markle) Berkstresser, 84, of Hustontown, PA, passed away on November 23rd at the Fulton County Medical Center.
Flora was born May 11, 1937 in Bedford County, PA to the late William Markle and Mary (Conner) Markle, the eldest of seven siblings raised “In the Cove” on family farms in Breezewood, PA.
She was a loving mother while also employed as a cook, server and, in the late 70’s-early 80’s, managed Sunny Ridge Restaurant in Shade Gap, PA.
Flora lived out her faith in Christ and family and friends cherished her kind heart. She was an avid reader, fervent puzzle solver and accomplished cook. Her family dinners and words of wisdom will be treasured.
She is survived by children: William Berkstresser, Hustontown, Donnie Berkstresser (Darlene Ramsey), Breezewood, Kathy (Garry) Swope, Wells Tannery, Susan (Doug) Thomas, Hustontown, Shelley (Max) Miller, Harrisonville, and Betsy (Dwayne) Northcraft, Waterfall.
Flora was blessed with nine adoring grandchildren: Holly Souders, Heidi Miller, Brad Berkstresser, Angie Hoffman, Jeremy Swope, Doug Thomas, Susan Thomas, Max Miller and Lindsay Berkstresser, Esq., 14 great-grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
Three sisters: Virginia (Earl) Garland, Ruth (Jim Fischer) Ramsey and Donna (Tony) Carpenter.
Along with her parents, she is predeceased by her youngest son Kenny Berkstresser, two brothers Richard Markle and Roland Markle and a sister Joyce Gracey.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family with Pastor Ron Hott officiating. Interment at Mountain Chapel Brethren in Christ Church Cemetery, Breezewood where Flora’s parents donated land from family farms.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Co. or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
