Fulton County lost another of its Life-Long Farmers with the passing of Dean L. Brant, 91 of Laidig View Farm, Little Egypt Road, Harrisonville. PA. on October 30, 2024.
He spent his entire life on the family farm working with his father, then with his wife and children, and in his golden years with his son and grandson.
Born March 3, 1933, in Laidig, PA, he was the son of the late L. Dallas and Sara (Laidig) Brant. He was the youngest of five children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a graduate of Hustontown High School, Class of 1951.
June 27, 1954, he married the former Faye Fetters of Hustontown. He spent his final years where he wanted to be …with beloved wife of 69 years together at FCMC LTC.
He was an active member of the Fairview United Methodist Church, Harrisonville, Pa. where he was the Adult Men’s Class Secretary and served as a Trustee of the church.
He served on the Board of Directors for New Enterprise Rural Electric Co-op, retiring after 29 years of service.
He was a longtime member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He served as Associate member on the Board of Directors for the First National Bank of McConnellsburg. Pa.
In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, making homemade ice cream, going deer hunting with the “gang”- neighbors hunting together to drive out deer to each other.
He is survived by three children: Connie Duvall and husband Jeffrey, Mercersburg, Curtis Brant and wife Donna, Harrisonville, and Jill Umstead and husband Daniel, Butler, PA. Seven Grandchildren: Nick Duvall and wife Vicki, Laurie LaFollette and husband Kenny, Carrie Gingerich and husband Dustin, Kellie Gress and husband Ted, Evan Brant, Tyler Umstead and wife Nicole, and Erica Ferry and husband Ricky. Thirteen Great-Grandchildren: Madalyn, Katelyn, Christina, and Allsion LaFollette, Hannah, Abby, Lydia, and Leah Gingerich, Calan Gress, Easton, Emmett, and Ezra Brant, and Nadine Umstead.
He is preceded in death by his wife Faye, parents, and brothers: Robert Brant and George Brant, sisters: Vera Black and Beulah Mahon.
The family will receive friends at the M. R. Brown Funeral Home, 301 Pitt St. Hustontown, PA on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 6 - 8:00 PM and at the church one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 4, 2024, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 2288 Hess Road, Harrisonville, PA with Pastor Becky Cutchall and Pastor Richard Bernhard officiating. Interment will be at the Fairview Cemetery, adjacent to the church. A fellowship meal will follow at the church community building next to the church.
