Albert Radel Corman, Jr., 87, Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Hustontown, PA died Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA.
Born March 10, 1933 at Windber, PA, he was the son of the late Albert R. and Helen O. (Wink) Corman. In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his stepfather, Norman W. Stahley, and his brother, Theodore H. Corman.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart Patricia Louise (Howells) Corman, to whom he was united in marriage on August 21, 1954, as well as by their four children: David A. Corman, York, PA; Lucinda L. Lopchinsky and husband Joseph, Aston, PA; Daniel L. Corman and wife Patricia, Ijamsville, MD; and Susan Y. Swisher, Chambersburg, PA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Jeremy Corman and wife Crystal; Laura Lopchinsky; Jason Corman; Adam Swisher and wife Andrea; Alex Swisher; Tyler Corman; and Grant Swisher. There are nine great grandchildren.
Albert was a member of the Chambersburg Church of the Brethren. He was also a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees and a member of the McConnellsburg American Legion Post 561.
After graduating from Windber Area High School in 1951, he served with honor as an aviation mechanic in the US Air Force from 1953-1958. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences and a Master’s degree in Education from Penn State University, and completed related professional development courses at Shippensburg University, University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown, and San Antonio Junior College.
Albert was an educator for 27 years at Forbes Road High School, Waterfall, PA where he taught vocational agriculture, industrial arts, and geography. He also served as advisor for the Forbes Road chapter of the Future Farmers of America. He was a founding member of the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company and the Forbes Road Lions Club.
Al to his friends and colleagues, Mr. Corman to his students, Albert leaves an enduring legacy as a sharing partner in life and guiding family patriarch, a passionate and caring teacher, and an individual dedicated to his faith and service to his community. Among his many talents, he is remembered for his skill as a woodworker and craftsman, backyard horticulturalist, and a master storyteller.
A private family funeral service will be held Monday, January 4, 2021 with Rev. Joel Nogle officiating. Interment will be at Berkey Cemetery, Windber, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hustontown Area Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Club, P. O. Box 537, Hustontown, PA 17229 or to the American Lung Association, National Direct Response Headquarters, P.O. Box 756, Osceola, WI 54020-0756.
A public Celebration of Life service is planned for a later date.
